We went and saw the surgeon again today. All is well. The blisters seem to be healing and he seemed satisfied with the way things look. DKO was worried about an apparent rash and some soreness under her arm, but he characterized those as "you're healing".
We have an appointment with the chemo doctor next week to find out if there's going to be chemo and, if so, what kind. Both of us are stressing about what's going to happen.
There's been a running conversation between DKO and the surgeon about fossilization in language acquisition. The surgeon's first language is Spanish and, when he found out DKO works on language acquisition, he wanted to know all about it.
The surgeon came in with students (as usual). At the end of the appointment, one of them came up to me and asked if I'd ever taught INDV 101....and even remembered me by name from when he took the course with me in '01. Very spooky!

Wow, what a small world - how cool, Mike, to run into the former INDV-101 student! And Diane, it is a relief to hear your healing seems to be going well in the doc's opinion. Yay!
Does this mean that some of our 101 muffins grow up to become surgeons? I don't know whether to be frightened or pleased by that.
I am keeping my fingers Xed about the whole chemo scenario. If my psychic funnel works, all will be well...
So when Mike writes at midnight references to linguistics is his rant? Is that when all your student/friends are awake? What about family?
Anyhoo, concerned about the next step w/or w/o chemo too, clue-less about INDV-101.
Your loving Sis
i'm relieved you got to speak to your surgeon last week--it's always surprising, yet good for 'the mind' to know, that there are many different ways the physical body heals...what we see [physically] and feel [physically] as pain and irritation actually often mean 'the body' is really doing it's own good thing. many say the body knows how to heal, right? i try to remind myself of that. i feel this
constitutes relief in many forms.
