Here I sit in the pet-scan place, waiting for DKO to finish.
It snowed yesterday here in town: amazing, gorgeous, beautiful. I haven't seen snow on the ground here since my first year in Tucson.
Our appointment was for 7:15 am, but when we woke up, there was still snow and ice on the roads, so we left about a half hour earlier than we'd planned, just to be sure. DKO drove the big car, as we thought the added weight would be safer. The east-west bridges over the Pantano Wash were all closed! We tried Speedway and Broadway, but found both of them closed, so we headed down to 22nd--with everybody else on the eastside of town--to see if we could cross there.
Fortunately, the police were letting a single lane of traffic cross there, so we got through. While DKO negotiated the traffic, I tracked down the phone number for the pet-scan place to alert them we'd be late.
We got here about a half hour late. Once we'd crossed the bridge, the roads were still a little icy, but remarkable free from traffic, probably because everybody else was stuck at some bridge!
The procedure here is that they inject the patient with something radioactive and then they have to sit still for an hour before the actual scan. We learned that the patient cannot move or even read while they wait; DKO was not pleased...as I'm sure she'll report herself later.
I went off to wait at Mickey D's--where I did not have an egg mcmuffin--and now I'm in the waiting room.

MH - don't they have fat free egg mcmuffins you could have at a time like this? You should at least be able to have a yummy treat, dang it.
Ice? Mickey D's? Tests, tests & more tests???? Again, Vegas is looking good! We booked at Excalibur--I'm sure we could sneak in a couple of family members--the ones we actually LIKE!
Is there anything more magical than snow in the desert? It snowed once when I was in Tucson, and your mention of it and the great pics brought back of flood of memories. I don't know why I suddenly remembered this, except I think it was the same year. Diane and I each bought one of those gigantic cups of Coke, or something equally carbonated. We were about to meet some famous linguist - for the life of me, I can't remember who now - and we were trying to come up with incredibly insightful observations with which to make a lasting impression. Diane carefully wiped the condensation from the drink on her shorts, held out her hand, opened her mouth, and I was completely in awe of the immense belch that erupted out of nowhere from someone that short. We used to rate belches on a scale of 1 to 10 on distinctive features like sonority and chunkiness, but after that belch, we decided to change to a more logarithmic one - like, the Richter. Diane never ceases to amaze me.
Oh My God! Meador, I remember the rating of belches. Those were the days!
Mike, it snowed one time when I was visiting you two - I think it was our birthday day - and the irony was I was visiting from Buffalo. (2003?)
I'm also now remembering grad school, my first semester, the hike down in the Chiricahuas. My first hike, and there was snow all around. Remember Nayla from Bahrain? Her first time seeing snow.
The photos are great - I love the last one of the cactus.
